T party

Today oscar was saying something about it being his birthday party and they were going to have Tea (yeah.. i dont know either.. i'm wondering if someone has a Tea set That he's played with?).. and i Thought, ok! let's have a Tea party! and Then i Thought but why have a Tea party when we could have a T party? so we did.

while we waited on The Tea kettle to heat up The water, we each got a letter T to Trace and decorate. we Talked about all sorts of Things That begin with The letter T, like Tickling Toes, Tea and Toast, Telephone and The number Two.

we hung our pictures up on The fridge and The boys enjoyed some Tea and Toast.

aaron was all for some Toast.

i have no idea what this face was about, but it was hilarious. This is what i got when i said, 'say cheese!'

This post was brought To you by The letter T and the number 2!

whole wheat banana and peanut butter alphabet pancakes

this weekend i made some whole wheat banana pancakes for dinner.. i decided to try out making letter pancakes, so i put some of the batter in the blender to get the banana lumps out and thought some peanut butter might be yummy in them. then into a squeeze bottle for letter making. they were so fun!

oscar pancakes! we asked him what it said and he said, "o - s - t - a - r!!!!" (close enough:) the S was a bit tricky, but i think it was just because it was the first letter i tried to flip.. the next one was beautiful

special pancakes for jeremy, too

oscar trying to shove the whole letter A in his mouth..
i had extra batter so i made another set of oscar pancakes and some aaron pancakes for them to eat monday morning. isn't it nice that they both have five letter names?

oats!

i bought a giant tub of oats at the store today and made some granola and some oatmeal raisin cookies. i haven't tried any of it yet, but i'm going to have some granola for breakfast tomorrow - i hope it's good because i made a ton. the cookies got good reviews from oscar and jeremy! i feel like a much better mom when i've got homemade cookies in the cookie jar.

green eggs and ham

i made oscar and aaron some green eggs and ham for breakfast this past week and read them the book while they ate..

i think they could have used a bit more green.. they lighten up a bit when cooked

i do so like green eggs and ham!

catching up

i haven't posted in forever, so here are some fun things going on around here:

oscar learned how to vacuum (sorta)
oscar and aaron are enjoying oscar's big boy bed and being able to jump in it

kristen's son, patrick, came to hang out with us for a day. they had tons of fun playing together

especially with the trains

then on the 19th, jeremy and i went to an auburn game. it was a very long day and by the time we got home we had been awake for 24 hours. we had tons of fun and got completely soaked. we got oscar a tshirt and a shaker - he loved the shaker.

we're goin' to the zoo zoo zoo

the saturday before labor day we packed up for a zoo adventure in hattiesburg. they have the perfect size zoo for taking a small child. it was small enough that he didnt have any problems walking (instead of being in a stroller or wagon). but there were still lots of fun things for him to see!

we got to the tiger exhibit while a lady was there talking about tigers. oscar loved touching the tiger fur (especially the tail).

oscar is taller than a tiger! (well, the smallest tiger species..)

after seeing everything on foot, we took a ride on the train to cool off a bit. oscar REALLY wanted to ride the carousel, but i hadn't bought him a ticket for it. luckily he forgot about it once we got on the train.

after that we stopped in the gift shop and got a wooden train whistle for oscar. we also picked up a postcard to mail to gramma and grandpa and squished a few pennies. we got a squished penny album for us to keep all our pennies in (so far just the zoo and the fort). oscar told me what to write on the postcard and drew a picture for gramma and grandpa. he also picked out which stamp to put on it (homer simpson) and put it in the mailbox!

sweet potato bread

(in case anyone didn't see this on facebook)

Sweet Potato Bread
-missy's made up recipe-

1/2 C. white sugar
1/2 C. brown sugar
1/2 C. oil
2 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/8 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbs. milk
1 1/2 C. flour
1/4 C. oats
1 C. cooked, mashed sweet potato
1/2 C. pecans
1/2 C. golden raisins
handful regular raisins

-missy method-

1. combine sugar and oil. stir.
2. add eggs. stir.
3. add next 9 ingredients. stir between each one.
4. add flour. stir.
5. add oats, sweet potato, pecans and raisins. stir.
6. dump in greased loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees until done.

-missy notes-

this recipe is too big to fit in my loaf pan (which i guess is 8ish x 4ish). i can either make a loaf and some mini muffins or two gimpy loaves. this is why i didn't put a length of time to cook it for, it depends on how you divide it.

i first tried this with more spices - more like pumpkin bread - but i think it was too much for sweet potatoes.. it lost its sweet potatoey carroty goodness.. i guess try it and adjust according to your liking.

i also took lindsay's suggestion and tried bread flour instead of all purpose and it is great.

and of course decorate the top with sugar in the raw and a cute design made from pecans and raisins.
